It is a common notion that many consumers have that organic children’s clothes are not fashionable and it is tantamount to dressing your child in a burlap sack. Although the term “organic” has been associated with unflattering labels such as “tree hugger” or “hippie,” fashion trends have made dramatic advances in the past decade and even major retailers such as Nike, Wal-Mart, and Target have been supporting organic clothes.

The awareness of the word “organic” has been huge in recent years. More and more people are gravitating towards all things organic but many do not fully understand why organic clothes, especially for children, are better. You may know that it is better for the environment but not fully realize why it is better. Your neighbor may believe products made from organic materials may be safe but, again, without knowing why. To give an example, let’s take clothes made from cotton. Clothes made from organic cotton do not use pesticides, insecticides, or other toxic chemicals in its production. The lack of these chemicals can be a huge benefit if your child has skin allergies or sensitive skin. The EPA has even released a report listing the seven of the top fifteen of the most widely used pesticides in cultivating cotton as a known or likely human carcinogen. It is not surprising that this is the case since many of these pesticides and insecticides were developed during World War II as a chemical weapons. Also, the farm workers that work the fields are not exposed to these toxic chemicals. They work in a safer environment as they do not have to be exposed to these toxins.

The human benefits aside, supporting organic farming is a major boost to the environment as well. Research indicates that only ten percent of the pesticides and insecticides used on cotton are effective. The rest seep into the soil and contaminate the water thereby ravaging the environment and killing off the wildlife. In addition, supporting organic farming also supports new technologies and farming methods to grow organic crops. These farmers are on the forefront of “green” technology and methods to ease the stress that conventional cotton crops create on the environment.

Buying clothes made from conventionally grown cotton doesn’t make you a bad parent or callous person but it is important to realize that there are other options available and those other options can be the best choice for everyone. Just understanding why organic clothes are better for your children will make a world of difference.

As responsible parents and just responsible citizens of our planet, we all should ensure our children grow up in a healthy, beautiful environment. This is why Fuzzy Green Monster was established. It is our goal to provide your children with eco-friendly apparel that is fashion-forward yet environmentally sound. There is no reason you should sacrifice style and comfort for sustainability and we strive to prove that every day with every piece.

As parents we protect our children from all sorts of things. We are careful with the other kids they hang out with; we make sure that they only watch good, clean TV shows and movies. We make sure that they are eating healthy, nutritious meals and we limit their junky snacks.

“Put on that seatbelt and buckle it tight, and whatever you do, don’t run with the scissors!”

We teach them to take care of their bodies with good hygiene, brushing teeth, keeping clean, to limit diseases and infections. In the winter, we are careful to make sure they dress warmly with snow suits, snow booties, gloves, hats and scarves. But when it comes to protecting them from the dangers of too much sun we seem to fall down on the job. We send our children out to play in the summer with only a bathing suit, or shorts and a t- shirt, seemingly unaware that we are damaging their long term health.

Consider these facts:

1. If your child has a full unprotected day in the sun and obtains a blistering sunburn, that one
occurrence will more than double their chance of developing melanoma–the deadliest form of skin cancer–later in life. Five or more mild sunburns will double their risk of developing any type of skin cancer.

2. Using sun protection throughout a child’s early life will effectively lower their risk of skin cancer by up to 80%.

3. Most children are not routinely examined for skin cancer lesions, and yet the cases of pediatric melanoma have increased by 100% in the last twenty years.

4. The skin around the eyes of children is especially vulnerable to sun damage. This skin is thin and burns easily. Also there is more chance of damage to the eye itself in children, as the lens is still developing and does not adequately protect the retina. And yet most children do not own a pair of sunglasses!

When our children show signs of getting red from the sun, we tend to throw on a t-shirt thinking that will protect them from a sunburn. But scientists have found that a cotton t-shirt at best affords only protection equivalent to SPF 7; and if that shirt should become wet the sun protection factor drops to about 4. Instead we should be throwing on a cool, lightweight, attractive sun protective shirt that provides an SPF of 30 or more.

So just what is Sun Protective Clothing? Researchers have developed new fabrics with embedded compounds that give the clothing an inherent protective quality against the sun. These high tech fabrics can give clothes a SPF of anywhere from a low of 30 up to a high of SPF 100. There is now even a universal guide for labeling sun protective fabric — the UPF value. On many clothes you will see a UPF value; this is the total Ultraviolet Protection Factor. This UPF value makes it easier for the consumer to compare the protective ability of one article of clothing to another. UPF, SPF it gets somewhat confusing. Just know that SPF is similar to the value you would see on a sun screen product, whereas UPF includes the fabric’s ability to block out both the Ultraviolet Type A and B rays.

We need to teach our children early the importance of protecting themselves from the harmful rays of the sun. They need to know that they can enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle outdoors without endangering their skin and eyes. The sun protection habits can be taught and instilled at an early age, just as we teach them to brush their hair and teeth daily!

Here are some good tips to follow for your child’s outdoor health:

1. Always make sure they are wearing a sunscreen when outdoors. A sunscreen of SPF 15 is the absolute minimum that should be worn. Apply it before they go outside and reapply it often if they are sweating or swimming.

2. Train your kids to wear sun protective clothing with built in SPF values. A rash guard like the surfers wear will allow your little beach bum to feel extra trendy and “cool” and will give added protection from the suns radiation of up to SPF 50. Also important are hats and ventilated SPF pants if you will be outside for long periods of time.

3. Whatever you do, don’t forget to protect your child’s eyes. Find kid sized sunglasses that block 100% of the UVA/UVB rays of the sun. Large wraparound ones will help protect the fragile skin in the eye area. Make sure the glasses are plastic and not glass and are impact resistant in case your little one should fall.

It is essential that we spend time outdoors for our physical and mental health. It is especially important that our children are outdoors, playing and exercising their bodies. The sun actually can contribute to our well being by providing us with doses of Vitamin D. But we must start our children early in the preventative health aspects of skin and eye care. Our motto has become, “by all means, enjoy the outdoors, just do so wisely.”

Muriel and her husband are both health care professionals. They warn you to start protecting your kids from too much sun while they are young. Be a wise, savvy parent and check out the sources for good quality eye wear and sun protective clothing discussed at their web site listed here. Your children can feel cool and stylish while you ensure their protection from damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun. http://www.squidoo.com/sunsafteyforkids/

Are you old enough to remember the sun tan lotion advertisement with the dog pulling on the back of a very tanned little girl’s panties? Her tanned back was in stark contrast to her very white “hiney”. If you remember that add, chances are you have over cooked your skin a few times! We discuss SPF clothing for adults as well, take a look here: http://www.squidoo.com/sunprotectiveclothing/

If you wish your child to be healthy, then your only option is to choose organic baby clothing. Organic children’s clothing will ensure a healthy life and proper development for your child. A baby’s skin is more gentle and sensitive when compared to adults. Hence their skin will be extra sensitive to harmful chemicals and toxins. Organic clothing is completely free of chemicals and is therefore perfectly suited for your baby’s delicate needs.

Parents want to pamper their kids with fancy clothing. Often we turn to branded clothes as we automatically assume that those clothes are the best for our children simply because of the label they carry. However, how often do we stop and check if the materials used in those clothes are safe for our kids. The processes of manufacturing ordinary clothes require the use of chemicals and toxins for fabrication, softening, water proofing, dyeing and printing. These chemicals will make your child unhealthy. Chances of your child developing allergies and infections are also high with these clothes. You will then have to spend a lot of money to help your child recover from the sickness. Instead, spend a little extra cash right in the beginning on green baby clothes to ensure that your child has a healthy development.

Organic children’s clothing is manufactured with cotton, wool, hemp, and bamboo grown under organic conditions. The process ensures that no harmful toxins and pesticides are used during cultivation thus also protecting the environment. Even during the manufacturing strict guidelines are followed so that no chemicals and toxins are used. Thus organic clothing is safer, comfortable and chemical free. Many are of the notion that pesticides are present only on eatables. However, they are also present in clothing, as the materials they are made with will be sprayed with pesticides and fertilizers during cultivation. Furthermore as stated earlier all the processes involved in making the clothes soft and silky require the extensive use of chemicals. To avoid this you can use organic baby clothes which are healthier and better. They are also eco friendly and will prevent the environmental pollution.

Ordinary blankets can cause dust allergies while organic blankets are dust resistant thus also protecting your child from viral infections. Regular diapers will cause rashes on the skin on prolonged usage thus causing irritation for the baby. Organic diapers absorb all the moisture on the skin thus keeping it dry and safe from skin infections and rashes. Your baby will be comfortable as well.

Though organic clothing is costlier than regular clothing its benefits certainly make it worthwhile. The fact that it is durable also ensures complete value for your money. Protecting your child’s health is your most important duty and organic products are the best tools for this endeavor. Go green to protect your child and the environment. Ensure that your child and the world is saved from pollution. We need to ensure our world is healthy in order for the future generations to be healthy as well.

At Sama Baby, we know that moms want the absolute best for their children. Our organic baby clothing is made with that love in mind.
Today’s parents are increasingly turning to kids’ boutique clothing for their little ones instead of purchasing mass produced children’s clothing from department stores or chain stores. Although designer kids clothing has always been a successful niche market, more parents than ever are turning to designer duds as a way to guarantee their children are dressed in outfits that look great, feel great, and stand the test of time. In fact, kids boutique clothing is quickly becoming as much of an industry as haute couture or designer labels for adults.

Investing In Quality

In today’s increasingly budget conscious world, parents have realized the value of purchasing quality clothing that lasts rather than buying clothing that quickly falls apart or doesn’t hold up to the rigors of children’s active lives. Some children’s clothing simply can’t stand up to the wear and tear dished out by kids, and many mass market outfits fall apart, shrink, or fade after just a few washings. It’s a frustrating cycle that leads to the purchase of more clothing that inevitably ends up in the rag pile.

Department store clothing may seem like a bargain until you pull it from the dryer and see that it has shrunk too small to be worn or that the color has faded from a vibrant, rich shade to a pale imitation of itself that kids don’t want to wear. Kids boutique clothing, on the other hand, is made from the finest natural fabrics and is designed to stand up to even the most adventurous activities, best of all it’s affordable high quality and very stylish.

Hand-me downs used to be a normal part of growing up, but in recent years the poor quality of most children’s clothing meant clothes wore out before they could be handed down. Kids boutique clothing has turned wearing hand-me-downs into a luxury that younger sisters look forward to – they can’t wait to strut their stuff in beautiful outfits that look like new even after their big sister has outgrown them.

Comfortable Kids Boutique Clothing Is a Favorite

Buying clothes your kids hate wearing is an exercise in futility. If you buy poorly made kids clothes, you will quickly learn that children are the most stubborn creatures on the planet. Scratchy seams, uneven hems, and poorly made clothes can be torture for children. It’s one of the main reasons young children quickly learn to hate “dressing up.” Fortunately, if you invest in the right designer kids clothing, your kids will be happy to dress up and show off their style. Kids boutique clothing features thoughtful touches like taped seams, all natural materials like cotton, and careful construction. All of these details add up to clothing that is a joy to wear, soft against the skin and perfectly fitted, but very reasonably priced making both parent and child very happy.

Stylish Clothing Makes a Statement

Children are savvier than ever when it comes to fashion. Most kids have a strong sense of style and want to make a statement with their clothes that sets them apart from the crowd and celebrates their originality. Buying clothes at chain stores doesn’t give these budding fashionistas the chance to express themselves with their clothing, but kids boutique clothing offers unique styles, colors, and designs for every taste. If you have a little princess at your house, dressing her in designer kids clothing is one way to let her express her inner diva.

If you have a child who loves clothes and wants to stand out from the crowd, kids boutique clothing is the perfect combination of high quality, style, and function. Investing in top quality designer kids clothing is a savvy and stylish decision both you and your kids will appreciate.

As an adult, you know that there are certain pieces of clothing that you cannot live without. For instance, every adult should have a nice pair of pants, a formal suit or dress, a coat, and so on. For kid’s clothing, there are also certain pieces that would make any child’s cabinet commendable enough to survive any type of fashion necessity. Here are some of the classic kid’s clothing pieces that will never go out of style:

1.	Shirts. Your child’s closet should at least have one plain one shirt, as well as a number of comfortable but stylish shirts. Toddlers and even pre-teens are likely to prefer this piece of kid’s clothing because of it is comfortable and possibly chic. For casual wear, buy bright or light colored shirts. If you attend formal events, buy a tight fitting plain black shirt, since it goes well with coats, jackets, and suits. For girl’s kid’s clothing, buy a top that goes well with both her dresses and her pants.

2.	Casual dress for girls. This piece of kid’s clothing is an amazingly versatile item. It can be worn for everyday use, but it can also be used for more formal events. A dress with floral prints or a Victorian-inspired sundress, for instance, would fit perfectly in an occasion that requires semi-formal attire. Toddlers and pre-teens aren’t really expected to wear party dresses (so save the black cocktail dress for much, much later).

3.	Shorts. A kid’s clothing piece that is often underrated, shorts can actually be fashionable and chic. For your boys, consider jean shorts-they go well if you plan to create a layered effect for your son’s upper body apparel. Shorts aren’t versatile (obviously, they cannot be worn during formal events and during colder seasons such as winter), but these kid’s clothing pieces are comfortable and can be easily styles for casual wear.

4.	Pants. As with shirts, you need to have more than one pair of pants in order to create a competent kid’s clothing wardrobe. You will need one pair of pants for casual wear that go well with both polo shirts and plain shirts and dress pants that can be with suits. Basically, you need kid’s clothing pieces that work for formal events and casual use.

If you’re going for kid’s clothing pieces that never go out of style, there are items you need to avoid. Clothing pieces inspired by cartoon characters are likely to be thrown out of the closet a year or two after purchase. These kid’s clothing pieces have very short life spans both based on fashion trends and the preference and interest of your child. Also, try to avoid kid’s clothing pieces that are too avant garde or unusual. There’s a big difference between unique and unusual. Choose items that you believe will still be fashionable after several months. This doesn’t mean you have to be uncreative; rather, you need to be smart if you want to decipher the difference between creativity and impracticality. Classic kid’s clothing pieces can still be fun with the right fashion decisions.

I know you’ve been lured by superstore prices on cheap or inexpensive kids clothing, who hasn’t?

How often have you pushed your cart through your favorite superstore and allowed baby or kids clothing to practically jump off the racks and into your cart? It’s so easy to do, and so convenient too! The styles and colors may appeal to you, but usually the low price is what grabs you (or rather, makes you grab it!). And, the low price is certain indicator of lower quality.

You think you are saving money. but in reality, if this is the only way you shop for clothing for your kids, you a probably spending a lot more over the long haul than needed.

What if I were to tell you that you that it most often costs less over time to spend your money on quality, higher-priced clothing? This is the secret to dressing your kids for less.

Using a familiar example, taking newly purchased clothing out of a superstore is like driving a new car off the parking lot. It loses its value immediately. After one wear, your options for recovering your investment are only 5, 10, or 15 cents on the dollar at a garage sale or lower-end resale shop. Many charitable organizations and donation centers may not even want your items.

But, by “Buying Right” your options for recovering your investment expand to 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, even 60% of retail value, depending on the demand for the clothing brand, the specific item, and the item’s condition.

By now you may want to write off this advice by thinking you can’t afford to buy higher-end, higher quality clothing for your kids. The good news here is that you don’t have to and you shouldn’t. To “Buy Right” means buying high quality brands at a discounted price (such as 50 – 90% off retail).

Let’s take an example. A dress purchased at a superstore for $12 may be worth $1.50 – $3.00 when you are ready to sell it, if you have cared for it well. However, a designer dress with an original retail value of $50, purchased at a 70% discount for $15 may be worth $10 – $20 to you on the resale market. You may even make money on this transaction! There are endless stories of Moms selling their kids clothing on-line for double the amount they originally paid. But, let’s say you sold it for just $10, your cost of wearing a fabulous designer dress is just $5 ($15 – $10), where as your cost of wearing the superstore dress is at least $9 ($12 – $3), if not more.

A couple shopping tips for “Buying Right” are:

Shop at end of the season sales, overstocks, samples sales and resale shops to get the best deals on high quality/designer clothing (going for 50 – 80% off retail value). Many of us are enticed by the billions of dollars advertisers spend on marketing into buying clothing for our kids weeks or months in advance of when they really need it. A little patience can be worth a lot of money to you here, and the wait isn’t very long. Within 2 – 3 months of new lines coming out from the retailers, you can find them at 50% off or more. And, the more patient you can be, the bigger the your eventual return on your investment will be.

Buying at the end of the season ahead for the next year is a great strategy for most families and children. Buy a size up from your child’s current size, and save it for a few months until the next season rolls around. I always try to buy more than 50% of my children’s clothing this way, saving room for some brand new styles next season. One of my favorite tips is buying at the end of the season for the coming season. For example, you can find remaining spring/summer inventory in July at deep discounts that are perfect for your child’s back-to-school wardrobe that you’ll need to pull together in August.

To really take advantage of this strategy, you’ll need to “Sell Right”:

When it comes time to sell your children’s clothing, sell online in very good – excellent condition at the time when the item is most in demand. For example, you should sell winter clothes in the fall (September-November), and sell your summer items in the winter-spring time frame (February-April). Selling on-line does not need to be difficult, and can be quite enjoyable (who doesn’t like to get a little cash back in their pockets?). Selling on-line expands your market of potential buyers, and lets you control the price. Your next best bet is to find a resale shop that will agree to keep less than 50% commissions.

Reaping the Rewards:

Many moms have figured out the difference to dressing their kids for less by leveraging seasonal sales and by re-selling on-line. Eventually, they build up a re-cycling clothing fund for their kids and never have to spend out of their next paycheck.

The next time you are in a superstore, you might think twice about letting that cute little outfit jump off the rack and into your cart. Do you really need it now? Is it something you can shop around for to get higher quality? These days its so easy to shop on-line and often the best deals can be found right in your email box or promoted on your favorite social network. There’s no need to haul the kids to malls, department stores, or children’s boutiques.

Shopping for your kids can be convenient, enjoyable, and financially rewarding too! But, only if you don’t get caught up in the myth and mega advertising that buying cheap or inexpensive kids clothing is the best strategy for saving money!

If you have kids then you know that they can lose things – Things can be anything – their water bottles, uniforms, shoes, bags etc. All these can be quite expensive and it does not make financial sense to keep buying them over and over (especially considering the fact that kids are growing). This is where the personalized clothing labels come in very handy.

When you buy personalized labels make sure they are washing machine, dishwasher, water and iron safe. You can personalize them with your child’s name and if you can even add your phone number on the label. Some merchants even have the option of placing some pretty icons on the label.

Most kids’ possessions are similar – similar shoes, similar water bottles and so separating your child’s possessions from that of others is very essential – and personalized labels are the best way to do this.

Personalized Clothing Labels come in three different types – sew on, iron on and stick on. Sew on ones, as the name suggests, you have to sew them on to clothes. Iron on ones, you have to iron them on the clothes – just place them where you want to go and iron them on. Stick on ones are like stickers – just stick them on.

You need to order these labels well in advance of the time you need them by – usually at least 2 to 3 weeks – Remember that they have to be personalized and are not off the shelf products.

Here are some possessions of your child that you should label (one point though, try to find a merchant who sells different labels for different possessions – you don’t want to use the same personalized clothing labels for clothes and shoes and so on and so forth):

Clothes

Shoes

Water Bottles

Socks

Pencil cases

Pencils

Textures

Scissors

Glue

Ruler

Bags

By Karen Dunne

Children’s clothing changes as much as adults’ do. When there is a new trend in adults, expect to see those trends in their children. When there are new clothing ideas for teenagers, expect to see those in children too. A child’s clothing would be affected by the current trend, and the latest fashion has a say on how they dress.

An example: people wear baggy, solid-colored, thigh-length shirts; girls and toddlers dressed up much like these adults do. They wore long shirts that are off-shouldered. Toddlers dressed in colorful shirts with colorful designs. Ripped pants were popular in men and women, boys and girls, and toddlers.

Today, there is more than enough inspiration for parents to dress up their child. Books, movies and TV series define what is in and what is out. As parents of today wear designer dresses and suits, they want their children to wear designer and quality clothing as well. They don designer heels and celebrity hairdos, and most parents want their children to look exactly like that next rising celebrity child star. Baby clothing of today is different too.

Though there are different clothing types for different seasons, parents choose baby outfits that are branded too.

Now you are probably wondering why many people would go for this trend, when it is clearly hard to follow especially for those with no big bank accounts. The secret lies in spending less. Not all clothes with popular brands are expensive, and it could be proven by discount stores.

Discounted kids clothing and baby gear are always popular with parents. The first reason is because these are high-quality clothing. The second reason is because they cost less. The third reason is because they are designer clothing – you are assured that whatever it is you are buying is tasteful. Parents usually have this checklist when shopping for items, and discounted racks in branded stores are always the first to be checked out. These discounted racks are seen in almost everywhere and almost every day of the year.

The advent of the internet has made many online businesses successful, and online discount stores are no exceptions. Though there are plenty of stores that offer very fashionable pieces of girl clothing, there are also discount online stores that offer trendy boys clothing. Looking for the best buy on kids’ clothing could be done online, and it would save you the bother of going to a store, driving a car and falling in line to pay for your purchases.

After the birth of her own young children Karen found it difficult to find good quality cheap children’s clothing on the high street or online. This was the catalyst for setting up the Cutie Pie Kids Clothing website. Cutie Pie Kids Clothing specialise is selling quality brand name & designer kids clothing at discounted prices. The business is based in the UK but worldwide shipping is available. Visit us at http://www.cutiepiekidsclothing.com

When it comes to the point that you realize your children are growing up faster than you ever thought possible you will start to find ways to hold on to parts of their childhood. A fun and easy way to do this is to create a memory quilt using their old clothing that they have outgrown.

Baby Clothes

During the first few years children go through so many outfits that it can be extremely disappointing, considering the amount of money spent. You also spend so much time picking out all of these cute outfits and they hardly had a chance to wear them. The ones that you do not want to pass on or keep for future children you can use to create a baby quilt. This baby quilt will be a great memory for yourself as your children grow older, and it could be something they cherish when they become adults themselves. Many have cute sayings on them like “Daddy’s Princess” which would make a great addition or center area of the quilt.

Growing Up Quilt

Another way of going about the quilt is to keep pieces of outfits as they go through all of their years. You can either sew the quilt piece by piece as you get scraps of their clothing, or you can keep all of the pieces in a box to assemble at a later date. When creating one of these quilts aim for a piece of clothing from each year or special moment in their life. They may not let you cut a chunk out of their prom dress, but the old soccer jersey they wore in junior high would definitely be up for grabs.

Children’s clothing are much more than just fabric; they carry on the emotions and memories from those moments in both of your lives.

Explore children’s clothing lines made by moms for moms who believe that purchasing quality, ethically made baby clothes is part of a healthy active lifestyle for their families.
